The Mental Health Jail Diversion Project (MHJDP)
The MHJDP, a post-booking
deferred-prosectution jail diversion model, is designed for individuals
with mental illnesses or co-occurring disorders who interface with the
criminal justice system. The MHJDP is a collaborative effort of key
stakeholders in Albany County who serve as a steering committee. The
primary goals of the project are to ensure that individuals with mental
health needs have adequate treatment services available to them, and
to facilitate early identification and diversion of persons with serious
mental illnesses or co-occurring disorders prior to incarceration
